Today, ceramic coverings are moving away from special effects and flashy decorations to focus on elegance, light and tactility. No longer limited to imitations of other surfaces, new ceramic products express a unique aesthetic based on the intrinsic potential of the material. An example of this evolution is Gigacer’s Dune collection, which embraces the ‘Only clays, no glaze’ philosophy, using only natural clays, even for surface decoration. Without glazes or artificial graphics, this collection, winner of the Adi Ceramics Design Award, reproduces the pattern of sand dunes thanks to advanced technology that simulates the action of the wind. The five shades available: Caribbean white, Zanzibar ivory, Sahara sand, Namibia tangerine, and Lanzarote black, evoke desert landscapes, while the finishes, ranging from soft to bush-hammered, offer a unique tactile experience. This research highlights how the evolution of ceramic coverings today focuses on the material, with continuous innovation in production technologies.
